Cedar Creek WMA: Your Guide to Hunting, Fishing and Camping

Two good bucks taken on Cedar Creek WMA in Georgia

Cedar Creek WMA is a 40,000-acre public hunting area located in the Oconee National Forest in central Georgia, spanning across parts of Jasper, Jones and Putnam counties. The property is owned by the U.S. Forest Service, but managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources as a wildlife management area.

The WMA consists of rolling hills with mixed hardwood and pines. It’s primarily forested, however, there are pockets of small openings and clearcuts in various stages of development scattered across the WMA.

In addition to numerous hunting opportunities that we outline below, Cedar Creek WMA offers fishing, hiking, birdwatching, primitive camping, and target shooting opportunities to anyone with a hunting license, fishing license or public lands pass.

Cedar Creek WMA Hunting Opportunities

Even though Cedar Creek WMA is located within the Oconee National Forest, it has its own specific hunting regulations and season dates. Hunting opportunities exist for a variety of game animals, including deer, turkey, small game, dove, and waterfowl. In addition to the main WMA, there is a smaller 1,500-acre tract called the Little River Area that operates under it’s own season dates as well. It’s worth noting that ATVs are prohibited on Cedar Creek WMA.
